We show up every day. We never take a sick day. We work off-the-clock and around the clock with very little breaks and attempt to do it with our sanity intact. Who are we?
We’re an undeniable force in our homes and in our communities and sometimes the sheer weight of that responsibility can overshadow anything that allows us to actually focus on ourselves. The very idea of taking time to read a chapter in a half-finished book or take some time sans kiddos may seem almost trivial and get pushed to the bottom of our ever mounting To Do list. However, here’s the the thing….it matters! It’s important to carve out even a little time for yourself and to make it a priority every. single. day (or at least week). 🙂
Here are 5 simple activities that you can do in minutes and incorporate into your daily routine:
Spend Some Time Outdoors
Simply breathing in some outdoor air can really help you reset and center yourself. A walk around the block, a little time in the garden or just sitting outside on a lawn chair by yourself, can give you a much needed escape and the chance to think about the things that are important to you. This meditative time will not only give you the chance to be alone with your thoughts but you might find that it opens you up to a potential opportunity or life change that you can only stumble upon when you are allowed to do the simple act of thinking.
While coordinating a whole day at the mall solo may be a difficult feat, give yourself even several minutes on your phone to browse, lust over or create some Pinterest inspiration boards for home and closet must-haves. There’s something so exciting about waking up to a new outfit that makes you feel really good about yourself! The day just seems to get started a little quicker when you know you have a cute pair of leggings to go with a perfect top; putting the two on can make you ready to take on the day with confidence! If you want to browse some stylish and wearable styles from LuLaRoe, a line that’s perfect for busy moms (like myself) and want to keep your eye on their latest pieces, join my VIP group here!
Have a Cup of Tea
Sounds too simple? The relaxing properties in tea make it the perfect “mom drink” that will help you chill-out after school drop-offs or chasing a toddler around all day. Tea will not only give you that 5 minute “me time” but it also has the added benefit (and scientific backing) to help you unwind. Different tea ingredients can having varying effects which is why becoming a tea connoisseur can become a hobby itself. Here’s an article to get you starting on some tea research. 🙂
Take a few minutes every day to write down your goals, fears, what’s making you happy, what’s making you angry, life in general and anything else on your mind. Knowing that you are writing something that is not for someone else to see allows you to put down your guard and really be with your true self for a few minutes. The time you journal is time for you; it’s time for reflection without any judgement from others. It allows you to come up with insights into how you are feeling and what you want to do with your life that you otherwise may not have when “preparing” an answer for someone else.
Create Your Own
Carving out time for yourself every day is not limited to the examples above. The key to success with this is to make sure it’s a short activity that you enjoy. Here are some other examples
- Give yourself a manicure or pedicure
- Have a stretching session or practice yoga
- Take a bath
- Read a book
- Listen to music (Maybe even dance in front of the mirror?) 🙂
- Watch some Netflix
- Listen to an audio book
Mom, the point is that you not only deserve some time to yourself but you need it to recharge and take on the challenging (albeit amazing) demands of motherhood.
My shift from teacher to LuLaRoe has been such an amazing journey and it came from some time alone with my thoughts and a decision for how I wanted to live my life. It’s been incredible to watch our community grow into something much more than people just interested in stylish clothes. We’re moms and busy women who have come together into this incredible group of people. If you’d like to join us, we’d love to have you!
